Seller FAQ
gBay Seller Frequently Asked Questions
1. What can I sell?
2. I made something, and I want to sell it on gBay. Can I do that?
3. I want to sell multiple items in one auction, can I do that?
4. How do I get paid?
5. Am I notified when someone bids on my item?
6. How long can I run my auction? What does it cost?
7. Do I deliver the item to the winning bidder?
1. What can I sell?
You can sell anything using gBay as long as you have the distribution rights to the content. All Second Life inventory assets, like clothing, scripts, primcraft (things made of prims), notecards, and body parts (skins, shapes, eyes, hair) have permissions assigned to them by the original creator of the asset. You may sell anything that the creator assigned "Transfer" permissions for the "Next Owner" (aka you). For items you have purchased, these Transfer permissions are already assigned. Right-click the item in your inventory and select Properties to view the permissions settings. If you are allowed to transfer the item, then you can sell it on gBay.
2. I made something, and I want to sell it on gBay. Can I do that?
Yes you can. When you prepare your creation for sale, make sure to set the Transfer permissions for the "Next Owner" to enabled. When you copy your sale item to the gBox, ownership is changed to gBay. Upon completion of the auction, gBay's scripts will automatically deliver your item to the winning bidder. So, if you do not set Transfer permission to enabled, then gBay will not be able to deliver the item to the winning bidder.
You probably also want to set the Copy permission to disabled otherwise the winning bidder would have the permissions to copy and resell your creation!
3. I want to sell multiple items in one auction, can I do that?
Yes. It is common to sell mulitple items in a single transaction. Many clothing outfits consists of more than one item (a pair of prim shoes has at least two, one for each foot!). In your set up, you should box the items into a single prim. You can use the gBay Packing Box included in the gBay Seller Pack or rez your own. For a video demonstration, please see here. You can pick up a gBay Seller Pack at gBay for free. Look for the gBay Seller Information Signs.
4. How do I get paid?
At the conclusion of your auction, gBay will transfer the final sale amount to your avatar's account automatically less a 2% fee. Fees are rounded up to the nearest Linden.
5. Am I notified when someone bids on my item?
No. But, you can visit your auction at gBay anytime and simply touch the gBox for your auction. It will chat to you details about the auction including the current high bid and time remaining. Bidder identity is kept confidential from both sellers and other bidders.
6. How long can I run my auction? What does it cost?
You can set your auction to run just about as long as you like, but we recommend that you do not setup an auction to last more than a week. Auctions are 2L per day, and that fee is paid at the start of the auction directly to the gBox that will hold your auction.
7. Do I deliver the item to the winning bidder?
No. You load the item into the gBox at the auction setup. The gBox will deliver the item to the winning bidder automatically at the conclusion of the auction.

gBay - NOW OPEN!!
gBay brings auctions to Second Life
gBay is now open at the Givenchi Garment District in Second Life. Residents can take advantage of gBay's exclusive gBox technology to securely auction unused inventory items to the highest bidder.
gBay owners, gBay Destiny, Steve Crowley, and GiveMeABig Oh believe that simple auctions for Second Life residents was a missing part of the Second Life economy. They hope this will allow residents to "clean out their closets" and earn some Lindens along the way.
"For the buyer, its an opportunity to find a designer outfit or some other expensive item for less. Remember, used items in Second Life are as good as new. Things don't wear out," explains gBay Destiny.
gBay's system will not allow residents to resell items unless the resident has transfer permissions on the item. "There are many items that you can not auction because you don't have permissions to transfer the asset to another avatar. We do no want to encourage or facilitate theft," explains Steve Crowley, gBay's chief programmer and owner of Sigma Chi Products.
Similar to other online auction systems, gBay charges a nominal listing fee and takes a commission on the final auction price. Bidders pay at the time of bidding, and are refunded their bids automatically when outbid by another resident eliminating the need for the seller to chase down buyers for payment. When an auction ends, the auction item is automatically delivered to the winning bidder, and payment is sent to the seller.
"We're very excited to bring this type of transaction to Second Life," notes GiveMeABig Oh who is also the owner of Bodies by Oh! To learn more, visit gBay on Givenchi (241, 215, 23).
